Raymond Olivier was born in Haiti in 1943 and died in the late 1980’s. He began painting as a child, and shot quickly to fame. He won a first prize for his painting “A Mother and Her Child” in 1958, and the following year another first prize in an international exhibit sponsored by UNESCO. He has had one-man shows in Haiti, Canada, Spain, Switzerland, Tahiti, France, and the U.S.

Olivier was initially influenced by a number of schools, but quickly developed his own unique style, which is unmistakable. By the early 1970’s, he had evolved a modern aesthetic which adopted elements of cubism and employed distinctive color schemes of green, blue, yellow and brown.  (Courtesy Egallery)
