Saincilus Ismael : Even after his death in March 2000, Ismael is still considered one of the foremost contemporary Haitian painters. He was born in Petite Riviere de L’Artibonite in April 1940. His paintings often revealed a mixture of voodoo and Christianity.Famous for his “madonnas”, Ismael also painted “majo Jonc”and “market scenes”. He began his career as a painter in 1956 and worked as the director of the “ceramics center in Deschapelles. Famous painters such as Michelange Altidort and Carlo Jean Baptiste were among his students.
