Petion Savain , Born in Port-au-Prince in 1906.  Often considered the founding father of Haitian modern art as he received recognition for his work in 1939, five years before the creation of the “Centre d’Art”. Was also a lawyer, author, art teacher and newspaper columnist.  His paintings are in permanent exhibitions around the world. Died in 1975.
