Description

Born on June 2, 1953, in the coastal town of Les Anglais, Haiti, Francoise exhibited an innate artistic talent from an early age. She found solace and expression through drawing, a passion that would later define her life’s work. In 1967, her family relocated to Port-au-Prince, a move that would prove pivotal in her artistic journey. Just a year later, she had the fortune of meeting Petion Savain, a renowned Haitian artist, and neighbor, who became her mentor. Under Savain’s guidance, Francoise honed her craft, developing a distinctive style marked by vibrancy and emotional depth. She continued to study and work with Savain until his passing in 1973, after which she collaborated with the talented Jean Richard Coachy, further refining her artistic voice.

Francoise’s dedication to painting earned her international recognition, particularly for her poignant depictions of childhood. One of her most significant achievements came when the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Germany selected one of her paintings to represent “The International Year of the Child.” This honor underscored the universal appeal and emotional resonance of her work.

When asked why children are her primary subject, Francoise simply states, “Children are my source of inspiration.” Through her brushstrokes, she captures the innocence, joy, and purity of youth, evoking a sense of nostalgia and warmth. Her paintings, often rendered in bright colors and imbued with a sense of movement, depict children in moments of play, learning, and companionship, reflecting the vibrancy and resilience of Haitian culture.

Over the years, Francoise’s work has been exhibited in esteemed galleries across Martinique, Guadeloupe, and her native Haiti, further solidifying her status as a significant figure in the Haitian art scene. Her paintings, characterized by a masterful blend of naivety and sophistication, continue to captivate collectors and art enthusiasts worldwide.
