An exceptional early work by renowned Haitian master Préfète Duffaut, dated 1957.
This highly detailed composition presents a powerful mystical figure surrounded by symbolic elements associated with Haitian Vodou and spiritual traditions. The central female figure appears within an elaborate ceremonial setting, surrounded by trees, a large spider web, serpentine forms, ritual objects, flames, offerings, and other symbolic imagery.
The painting demonstrates the distinctive visual language that made Duffaut one of the most recognizable figures of Haitian painting: intricate line work, strongly defined forms, imaginative symbolism, and a richly layered fantastical environment.
Dating from 1957, this work belongs to Duffaut’s early period, making it particularly interesting to collectors of historically important Haitian art.
